Polydiaxone (PDO) threads are absorbable surgical sutures that stimulate collagen production, the most common protein in the body that is used to form a framework to support cell and tissue. Threads can either be smooth or barbed.

The polydiaxone (PDO) thread lift procedure, uses barbed absorbable surgical sutures placed in the subdermal layer of the skin to initiate collagen production. If one is a good candidate, who has appropriate dermal thickness and support, this procedure can act to define the jawline and lessen the drooping of the marionette lines and nasolabial folds.

With smooth threads, there are no fixation points, rather, there is cumulative effect of several sutures placed for collagen remodeling, mesh formation, or vector pulling. After injection, the needle is removed and the thread stays inside the tissue until reabsorbed. Gradually and naturally, through the process of re-absorption, the suture restores lost collagen and gives more definition to the patient’s features, maintaining volume over time.

Threads will be reabsorbed in 4-6 months time, leaving nothing behind but the skin structure created which continues to hold for another 15-24 months.

The best part about threads is not only their efficacy, but their safety. They can be used in a wealth of places including: forehead lines (vertical/horizontal), sagging eyebrows, cheeks/jawline, nasolabial folds (smile lines), corner commissure (marionette), skin furrows/wrinkles within the neck, jowls, chin, cleavage (wrinkles of breast), and other areas of tissue laxity such as above the knees or abdomen. They too are a wonderful treatment for acne scarring! At 4 to 6 weeks, we recommend a follow-up to see if you would benefit from any additional threads, as many times the procedure takes up to 3 treatments initially to achieve desired results. Thereafter, we recommend yearly follow-ups as a single procedure for maintenance.
